Director, Portfolio Management

Trinity Capital Inc., a leading provider of diversified financial solutions to growth stage companies, is looking for an experienced Portfolio Management professional to join its world-class team in Phoenix, Arizona.

Job Description

The Director, Portfolio Management, offers exposure to leading venture capital investors and a wide cross section of emerging growth companies. The position will include high touch management of 15-20 companies at once while dealing with CEOs, investors, banks, etc. This role will analyze financial data and stay in sync with their companies’ management teams to gain color on latest progress, problems, and plans. The Director, Portfolio Management will prepare and present credit memos to the investment committee for loan modifications or upsizes and will also be charged with preparing risk ratings materials for presentation to executive team and Trinity’s banking partners. This full-time position will report to the Managing Director and is based on-site, at our Phoenix, AZ office.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the role will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Act as a primary point of contact within Trinity for Portfolio company CEOs, CFOs, and VC partners
  • Assist in meeting Trinity’s Originations goals by opportunistically identifying new business opportunities from current portfolio partners
  • Negotiate loan modifications with Portfolio companies as required which result in a “win-win” proposition for the Portfolio company and Trinity
  • Navigate through difficult work-out situations as needed, to optimize returns to Trinity
  • Present the proposed terms of modification or work-out scenarios to the Investment Committee in a clear and concise manner
  • Maintain relationships with banking partners
  • Develop and maintain metrics that summarize the performance of portfolio companies
  • Prepare periodic reports for Trinity Executive Staff, BOD, Banking Partners, and other stakeholders as required to clearly communicate the performance of the portfolio companies

Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business
  • Five (5) years of experience, and a track record of success, in technology banking or venture lending, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a portfolio management role
  • Deep familiarity with various aspects of business operations (sales, product development, production, accounting, etc.)
  • Experience interfacing with attorneys and the negotiation of contracts
  • Familiarity with the key aspects of Equity investing
  • The ability to represent Trinity in a positive manner, often under difficult circumstances
