Director, Portfolio Management

Trinity Capital Inc., a leading provider of diversified financial solutions to growth stage companies, is looking for an experienced Portfolio Management professional to join its world-class team in Phoenix, Arizona.

Job Description

The Director of Portfolio Management will be responsible for managing relationships with Trinity’s portfolio companies. The successful candidate will have at least five years of directly applicable credit risk and client relationship experience and will be deeply familiar with performance metrics from a wide variety of industries and business models. The role will report to the Chief Credit Officer.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as the role requires ongoing collaboration with various stakeholders and regular presentations to the Trinity Investment Committee. This position offers the successful candidate exposure to leading venture capital investors and a wide cross-section of emerging growth companies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Director of Portfolio Management will assist in developing and executing the company’s business strategies; the duties and responsibilities of the role will include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:

  • Act as a primary point of contact within Trinity for Portfolio company CEO’s, CFO’s, and VC partners
  • Assist in meeting Trinity’s Originations goals by opportunistically identifying new business opportunities from current portfolio partners
  • Negotiate loan modifications with Portfolio companies as required which result in a “win-win” proposition for the Portfolio company and Trinity
  • Navigate through difficult work-out situations as needed, to optimize returns to Trinity
  • Present the proposed terms of modification or work-out scenarios to the Investment Committee in a clear and concise manner
  • Maintain relationships with banking partners
  • Develop and maintain metrics that summarize the performance of portfolio companies
  • Support the asset valuation process by identifying any credit risks that may impact collectability
  • Perform monthly credit risk rating and portfolio company performance summary for presentation to Executive Team
  • Prepare periodic reports for Trinity Executive Staff, Board of Directors, Banking Partners, and other stakeholders as required to clearly communicate the performance of the portfolio companies

Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business
  • Five years of directly related experience and track record of success in technology banking or venture lending, with at least 3 years in a portfolio management role
  • Deep familiarity with various aspects of business operations; e.g. sales, product development, production, accounting, etc.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Experience interfacing with attorneys and the negotiation of contracts
  • Familiarity with the key aspects of Equity investing
